Several staff members from Lexington Three's Lifelong Learning Center recently received awards at the annual SC Adult Education Awards Celebration.
Congratulations to:
Geena Beerman who won the regional award for College and Career Navigator of the Year. She was nominated for the award by Randall Price, the Director of the LLC.
Mr. Price said, "Ms. Beerman has become our ever-present, 'go-to' expert in many areas affecting students. Students frequently consult with her as they progress at our school. Dedication to the students is her highest priority. She always makes herself available in order to meet their physical, cognitive and emotional needs. She can be counted on to promote relationships of trust and respect. Due to Ms. Beerman's hard work and dedication, the adult classes at our school have continued to evolve and prosper, even during the COVID period. She always gets the job done, no matter the task, and no matter the distractions that may arise. The administration, teachers, and students at our school appreciate the expertise and confidence she provides, whether it is helping students draft resumes, arranging for employer contacts, making agency referrals, providing counseling, or mitigating barriers."
Geena BeermanAlso, congratulations to the Lifelong Learning Center's English as a Second Language team that is composed of staff members Randy Fox, Rebeca Brunson and Cissy Terlizzi as they were awarded the Stepping Up To The Plate Award for their efforts with the ESL and Hispanic Heritage Program.
They were nominated for the award by LLC Director Randall Price, who wrote this about the trio: "With the arrival of the 2021-22 school year, our ESL team of teachers were determined to lead the effort to reinstate the Hispanic Heritage Day activities for the current groups of adult education classes, while at the same time, practicing safe COVID protocols. They were very successful in doing so. A tremendous amount of preparation and energy was displayed by the ESL team to make the event a highlight of our Fall semester. I sincerely feel the efforts of our ESL teaching team is worthy of commendation. At this point in time the ESL classes represent approximately 50% of our adult education participants, and 75% of our Family Literacy participants. The vast majority are of Hispanic descent. These students look forward each year to the lively and informative Hispanic Heritage celebrations. Our Hispanic Heritage Celebration is not just a chance to recognize student's heritage, it also allows our students and staff to share life experiences, appreciate diversity, and come together in unity and opportunity."
